Black and white

I woke up to an episode of The Rifleman.  If that is foreign to you Gen X somethings it was a western TV show back in the day.   Anyway, the main character is Lucas McCain.  He was a chiseled leading man with a stone jaw line, steely eyes, and integrity to die for.   He managed to run his ranch, raise a son (it was actually the first prime time TV show to feature a single father) get down to the saloon every now and then and,  in his "spare" time rid the west of ne'er-do-wells.

He managed to do this all in 30 minutes,  less than that with commercials.  I loved it.  There were two episodes on today and I watched them both.

It was nice to see things tidied up and resolved in such short work.  There was none of the language, blood, graphic violence and gore that we have grown accustomed to..  It was simple and refreshing. -- an escape into a world that was black and white in every way, literally and morally.  Ahhh wouldn't it be nice....

So much of what we experience today is not so simple.  What is legal is not always right and what is considered bad isn't really, it's just harder than what we may want to deal with.  This electronic culture has made our world bigger.  We know more.  We have traveled farther,  our vision has been expanded and because of it we are made cautiously aware of our strengths and our frailties.   We learn that real life can be complicated & precious little leans toward a simple life in black and white.

So how do we maneuver when our challenges are complex and hardly any issue in our lives can be solved in 30 minutes or less?   Here's the thing and it works in EVERY situation, I promise:  act justly, love mercy and walk humbly.... basically, be good, be kind, and be aware -- that we are a small portion, of a small people,on a small planet in a small solar system in the vastness of others that form the universe.  'And none of it is created or controlled by you.

...but when you need a break from it all,  pick up your remote and find Lucas McCain,  He will hook you up.
